We are the Minories
We are the Minories is a charity which manages the spaces and creative programme at The Minories gallery. It was established in 2020 following closure of the Minories building by the previous tenant, and is closely allied with The Victor Batte Lay Foundation, which owns the building.
We are the Minories Statement of Purpose
We are Colchester’s oldest art gallery and so much more. Our historically significant building is home to a tranquil garden and an extraordinary art collection, all supported by a passionate team of staff and volunteers.
Since 1956 we have been a welcoming space where artists and creative minds can connect and thrive. Our gallery serves as an incubator for new ideas, allowing audiences and artists to explore without judgment. As a hub for artists, makers, and community groups, we strengthen Colchester’s creative industries.
We're actively diversifying our art collection to reflect our communities and ensuring everyone has a voice. Ultimately, we aim to foster a more connected Colchester where creativity can flourish.
